Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

In looking at the cyclical relationship between character, action and environment in CPS this week, I started by considering how a major historical event can influence how the world, characters and their behaviour.

From here, I mindmapped out into considering events like 9/11 affecting the significance of home security and homeland security. I took this idea and began with a character representing a secuirty character.

I tinkered around with this character to create several different iterations: two sentient security cameras, one of which is in an animated gif, and then a character that has cameras sprouting from its body to observe the world around it and protect itself. I also used an exercise in copying other artists, in this case looking at Invader Zim (Jhonen Vasquez) and Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb (Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh).

I then developed the environment, and at Max's recommendation watched a short documentary video about the private security industry in Cape Town, South Africa. I drew up an isometric architectural rough sketch of a fortified house, which then became the environment of my final object.

I combined all of these elements together in my final object, this short animated gif made in Adobe Animate of a sketchy, suspicious character sneaking out of his fortified home adorned with his security cameras
