In response to week 7’s theme of “Time as Material”, I made a short 3D looping animation that literally shows a mechanism that creates infinite balls, each one falling into a trampoline and bouncing through a portal which forwards time just for that object, turning it into an old and rusty ball for it to finally being discarded as it is on a precarious state. This work was made using 3D animation techniques with a loop structure.
By showing a time portal which affects the objects immediately, I wanted to explore themes like the state of matter and how the valuation of an object can change depending on how old it is. Also, I also looked towards how time affects an object an giving it a different perspective since in this exercise it’s not visualized as a constant, but as a mere variable that can be changed to whatever result in any place of the timeline. I also wanted to highlight the concept of obsolescence, which addresses the problem of disposing an object even for only a superficial wear.
