Characters and Events
Context
Thinking more about Object Oriented Ontology, I wanted to demonstrate how an object at the centre of a fixed system would become the central character as it changed through its interaction with the system, while at the same time be the primary cause of change and development of the character of the system itself.
Method
Covering my hand in one substance, and a wall in another substance, I will throw a ball at the wall and catch it again repeatedly, recording the transference of materials and the change of each object over time.
Response
So it was a lot of fun, and fairly messy, but the main takeaway is that I ended up with a ball that has an interesting character of it's own now. The wall itself didn't retain all that much marking, and my hand of course got washed off in the end, but I like how the exercise produced these 3 sort of "impacts" from the character and environment. One being the negligible impact to the "wall", which acted as a momentary force to connect the ball to my hand. Two being my hand, an ephemeral environment that shared that experiences and characteristics of the ball for a brief window in time. And three, the ball, which will forever remain as the scarred characterisation of this event.
