Context

This week I was considering stripping a character back to simple events and I thought of the way the Predator is represented when it’s invisible. I thought it would be interesting to create an object which is completely invisible and inert to the player until some other events occur. I also drew inspiration from game characters such as Sombra from Overwatch and the slimes from Slime Rancher.

Method

I wanted to construct an object out of smaller, physics objects with their own movement. I imagined an animated character model that could walk around and was invisible until other objects collected inside it.

In this experiment I inverted the colliders of a set of cubes with a script It wasn't as challenging as I thought it would be. I also added a script to the smaller cubes so you can grab them with the mouse and move them around. It's a lot of fun trying to get all the balls in one place. I experimented with both invisible and translucent cubes and found that whilst the completely invisible cubes convey the concept better, they are much more challenging to interact with, especially for new players.
