In response to week 5 topics, Objects are not exhausted, I have created this little art installation. They are all crafted from printed paper and are painted by color pencils and pen
The topic of “Objects are not Exhausted" revolves around how objects behave and interact with each other without the presence of the human. Out of all the objects, I find it very interesting to explore the relationship between objects in a digital environment. That is the reason why I choose the mobile phone and mobile applications to play around with for this task. For the relationship between these two objects, there are some key point
Mobile phone -> mobile application: The mobile phone is like the container for the applications, the applications can only exist along with the mobile phone
Mobile application -> mobile phone: The mobile application make the mobile phone interesting, it acts as a “soul” for the mobile phone
I struggle a lot to think about ways to convey the relationships between the 2 forward. Trying to brainstorm and test out the right medium. All in all, I decided to create a physical representation of the matter. Looking at the pictures, it is clear that there are two types of objects. Firstly, the mobile phone that’s cut out of the paper. Secondly, the small blocks painted in primary and secondary colors to represent the application of the phone. The way I place the small blocks on the phone surface is to represent the relationship I argue above
I get the idea to do something like this from a guy name Pascale Marthine Tayou. He has created several impressive art installations and the one that I find most interesting "Plastic Tree". The colorful but simple nature set up of the piece strike me hard. I also love how he conveys the subjects of pollution through the piece
