In Week 4 of CPS, we discussed Place and its importance in storytelling as well as its connection to the characters.
As an artist, I’d say my backgrounds are my weakness, and I wanted to do something different from my usual portraits. I tried to play around a bit with the idea of the environment shifting to fit the character's perception. In the end, I thought about portraying escapism by showing a girl still within the confines of a window but surrounded by the clouds that begin to mirror her thoughts of bunnies.
I was inspired by the illustrator トーコ Toko who has produced many dynamic and meaningful backgrounds that brings character and life to her pieces. As such, I wanted to make the setting and character be seamless parts of a single story instead of separate entities.
