Week 3

Response

In response to the theme of Found Objects, I created a stop motion mainly using socks. Before the process of creating, I researched different food-producing stop motion videos on Youtube. They mainly use craft items and toys to create their stop motion animation.

By experimenting with different objects and drawing upon their characteristics, e.g. the easily deformed socks and the rigid look of a purse, I was able to create a linear animation of the life of a fish and its preparation to be a meal. Also, by desaturating the whole film, I was able to minimise the difference in lighting between each scene.

When exploring the theme, I created an artwork ‘Fishing Underwater’ using blankets, socks, washi tape, ruler and a cable.

The work ‘Fresh Guacamole’ produced by PES (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNJdJIwCF_Y) and ’Stopmotion Cooking-Fireworks’ created by a youtube channel Matsuda55 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0q7ELdj7498) are all created by using unrelated objects such as toys and craft items.
