Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

In response to the theme of ‘Found Objects’, I modeled a spinning top in Maya using the materials I found at home. These materials were a bottle cap, a wooden stick and a piece of string. I didn’t have enough of the string to create a working spinning top in the real-world, so I decided to go with a 3D model. By combining these objects to create something that was different, I tried to show that things can be taken and seen from a different perspective. Everything can be used in a way they are not meant or expected to be used in. I was able to take these three objects and use them in a scenario they were not meant to be used in. Similar works have been produced by Marcel Duchamp in his famous work Fountain and Bicycle Wheel, where he takes a ready-made object and presents it in a way that it was not supposed to be used in. A work by Boris Mates, whose work Outside the Sandbox – Sculpture from Found Objects, explores this theme by creating different sculptures with things that he found on a beach.
