CPS Week 3 - Found Objects

Theme

This week’s theme was ‘found objects’.

I believe some objects have a significant contribution to our lives. Well, most of the objects have some importance and we share some feelings with these objects, we ‘miss’ them often and some of them reminds us of our childhood.

Context

The theme reminds me of a scene from the movie Batman Begins (2005), when Rachel gifts the arrowhead to Bruce when they met for the first time in their adulthood, she found that arrowhead when they met for the first time in the Wayne Garden when they were kids, there was a note written “Finders Keepers”.

Well, I always thought objects, regardless of their existence, share deep relationships with humans as we have a habit of falling in love with almost everything.

Method

I remember, once there was a mosquito repellent plug lying around in our house. I was very attracted to its design as it resembled with UFOs or some sort of flying saucers. I used to watch a lot of sci-fi movies back then, and I believed that plug looked very similar to the alien ships from the movie Independence Day (1996).

I enjoyed playing with that mosquito repellent, flew it around. I stored it with my toy cars and often I used it in the race and as it did not have any wheels, I would fly it with my hands. Of course, I’d win every time because those alien ships were like the lightspeed.

As I am overseas, I thought I would import that. I actually asked someone to do a bit of searching in the house to look for it, it’s been two decades so it is very unlikely that I could find it, otherwise, I definitely had imported that here.

So, I started looking for it online but as it was a long time ago, the company has stopped manufacturing that and revamped the designs. So, I searched for other mosquito repellents that looked like UFOs but who would make a mosquito repellent look like an alien ship I wondered.

Thankfully, I can do a little bit of 3d. Well, I ended up collecting some decent references and that polished my memory of that original design. I modelled it in 3ds Max, applied some basic materials that would look like plastic, and thought of doing a small flyby animation, also added a spaceship hyperacceleration sound so good headphones are advised.
