In response to the theme of “Tinkering”, I made a small ball game using Unity as the engine and a free 3D asset on the web from Super Mario Bros videogame. By trying to code a small ball to move through that stage, I wanted to show that tinkering and exploring other type of characters can led into unexpected interactions between the place and the character. The ball can actually move around but its mechanics and dimensions have not been thought for that specific context, leading to fun but unexpected results. Similar work has been produced by Capcom with its Resident Evil series. In Resident Evil 2, you can replace your character with a big piece of Tofu, which serves as your playable character. In this case, the character’s mechanics are on par with the human playable characters but it changes the whole atmospheric context, relaying on funny moments rather than tense or dramatic ones.
