In response to the theme of tinkering, I made/presented/produced a melting wax figure using Zbrush. In another class Animated Narratives I started to make an animation that features a "melting wax figure" and I ambitiously decided I wanted the figure to be a 3D object. I have no idea how to make 3D objects.
By opening Zbrush and tinkering with their template bodies and heads I started to show how it is possible to make things look as though they are melting. I started this by using various brushes including smudge, hook brush and alpha brush. Then I got excited about the Snake Hook Brush.
This work was inspired by bootleg toys- I worked on a documentary short about bootleg toy makers last year and became interested in their aesthetic. I like the way their objects are so close to the real thing but are different enough to start making you feel a little weird and then go on to question everything.
