In response to the theme of Forces, I made an animation environment using a single tilesheet texture drawn by hand in Aseprite.
By limiting myself to a single 256x256 sheet of 32x32 textures drawn with a palette of 256 colours I was able to create a readable environment with a lot of atmosphere that still had a lot of variety, showing that the constraints of older technology meant creators had to be more creative and thoughtful of how they used the space that they had.
Similar work has been produced by Keiichiro Toyama, whose work Silent Hill 1 (1999) explores this theme by crafting complex and diverse environments from the same tile limitations (256x256 sheets of 32x32 textures) that were rich in atmosphere and cinematic in their own dated way.
