In response to this week's theme of ‘forces’, I made a series of watercolour paintings using the Zorn palette (with blue instead of black), a 15cm by 10cm, one brush and time constraints.
By placing these constraints on my production, I was able to develop an exploration of hue and form of these animals. As I made different iterations, I kept developing my focus as the constraints revealed what was best to explore in these conditions.
Similar work has been produced by Anders Zorn, whose oil paintings like A Portrait of the Daughters of Ramon Subercaseaux (1892) utilise the four colour Zorn palette. This palette is only four colours, creating a constraint that really pushes an exploration of hue.
