In terms of this week's theme " forces" , I have created some paintings with constraints. By using colour and patterns as the constraints, I am trying to explore more possibilities in shading objects.
Two constraints are used:
Using only one or two colours or colour palette
Using only points or lines
I used different brush strokes and materials to paint just to emerge more ideas. There are several topics of my painting: sunset, cup, cloud and buildings.
I have used purplish red line to draw one which is about sun shining on the clouds. Unexpectedly, I find it looks more like the sunlight is transforming into the cloud. It is believed that using lines like the above work can be a great visual presentation and direction for an evolution.
By using a contrast in colour, I am trying to make the shading more clear and outstanding. It is also interesting to see how different opacity of the brush works together and forming illusion of 3 dimension.
I also experiment with a monochrome colour palette to draw buildings. It is interesting to see the combination of colours with a single direction of lines also create some texture texture in the work.
Similar works have been done by GoldenPaints in the video named “Pendulum Pours with Colour Pouring Medium Matte & Gloss.” They create unexpected colour patterns with constraints. It gives a new sense of excitement and inspiration through mixture of colours with limited conditions.
