In response to the theme of Observation, I observed a flower worn down by the rain at Old Melbourne Gaol, and created an animated illustration inspired by it using Clip Studio Paint and After Effects. By focusing on the details of the drooping petals and the droplets of water falling down the petals and portraying the flower as part of a dress worn by a crying girl, I believe was able to bring out emotions of sadness and vulnerability in the artwork.

Similar work has been produced by Singapore-based artist Grace Ciao, whose works of fashion illustrations that combine hand-drawn lines and watercolor brushstrokes with real, three-dimensional flowers and explores this theme by representing emotion and character from the flower’s detailed structure and vibrancy.
