In response to theme of Observation, I produced a sketch of an abstract iron sculpture that I found on the RMIT campus, using pencil and pens on paper. By taking my time to sit with an observe the sculpture, I noticed how neglected it was, sitting in an out of the way courtyard, covered in patches of rust, spider webs, leaf litter, and cigarettes and alcohol cans. In my sketch I wanted to highlight this aspect of neglect, so after drawing the form of the sculpture as best as I could in pencil, I decided to draw the detritus around it in pen, so that they stood out a little more clearly.
