CONTEXT

I think it is so true that the environment shapes us and we also shape the environment. One of the examples is that Hong Kong people became more hygiene-aware after the outbreak of SARS and the hygiene of Hong Kong was improved after that. To me, the first company I worked in also plays a role in shaping me. I studied a bit on how to express the emotion through colours for the animation.

METHOD

The scenes of animation were illustrated in Photoshop and edited in Premiere Pro. The game objects are illustrated in Photoshop and the game is programmed with Playmaker in Unity. The soundtracks were downloaded from the Youtube audio library.

RESPONSE

My first working experience really altered my thoughts a lot. Though I appreciate the bosses for giving me many opportunities to have a try on different media (eg editing, animation, illustration, typesetting, UI design etc.)  [without a rise in salary], I cannot agree with their mindset of trying to ‘full-utilize’ every worker. It was the first time that I discover the demon and the dark-side in my heart that I really wished to shoot them with a gun. I like helping others because I feel satisfied by doing so. However, the working experience let me realized that as a worker, I should not sacrifice myself and try to help them as much as I can because they may not be a thoughtful good boss that their only concern is their profit.

With this story as an inspiration, I used a rabbit as the main character of the animation because rabbits give an impression of obedient and mild-tempered. Only four colours were used in the animation to project a dull feeling. I used the grey colour as the background to give a depressed mood. White colour was used to give a cold feeling to the conversation bubbles. The yellow light drags the audiences’ focus and assist in the cowardice impression of the rabbit. I made the animation that focused on the shadow of the rabbit which reflects its psychological state. In the beginning, its shadow was just a rabbit. As the boss asked for more and more from it, a demon slowly grew in its heart. Music was manipulated to present the change in its psychological state.

In the game, the bosses attack the rabbit (the players) and the players try to defeat them. When the score reaches 15, the bosses think that the rabbit has already adapted to the current workload so they try to ask for more from it. Therefore, the speed of bosses movement towards the rabbit is increased since score =15. Yet, the rabbit learnt to fight back after that. The cooldown between shots is shortened since score = 20. Then, the players will become invincible. The aim of this game is to let the players shoot down as many bad bosses as they wish until the anger in their heart is eliminated. 🤪
