For my archival object I made a video of two aliens finding and then discussing the work I made in CPS class this semester. By setting the film on another planet, I thought it would be a great opportunity to use my new skills in 3D and 2D animation and combine them with my interest in script writing and filmmaking.
The brief asked us to provide a narrative thread that connects all of the works and show some higher order reflection on the work. The reflection part was pretty straightforward and there is a section at the end of the film where the two aliens discuss my work generally, saying it shows I was "thinking about the tension between the authentic and the artificial", "building worlds that feel tangible" and creating a "playful sense of foreboding".
Where I had trouble was figuring out a narrative thread connecting all the works. I treated this class very openly and was experimenting with new software, so I feel like almost every week was very different. The only real cohesion I found was that almost everything I made is a bit creepy, if I may say so myself.
In terms of where it fits in the wider field of practice, I think my work is starting to lean towards weird children's programming. It's all creepy, but I don't like to make anything too dark. Aesthetically, my archival object is quite similar to the creepy kids show Angela Anaconda (1999-2001).
