THEME
3 Rules
Bearnard is the star / out of your comfort zone / use the thing beside your right hand
CONTEXT
For this week I wanted to use my rule of ‘out of your comfort zone’ in the context of a simple design, I tend towards preferring higher detail and complicated fine art rather than more reduced works. To that end I looked at two examples of what I consider very successful and pleasantly refined styles. K-eke is probably more relevant in terms of also being small looping gifs, but GoTAs is something I saw some years ago that stuck in the back of my mind.

METHOD
Create a simple, looping animation using my tablet (which was the object that was beside my right hand, as the rules specified) and adobe photoshop.
RESPONSE
The animation shown is the end result of my work in this weeks class. I decided to fully redraw every frame using variable opacity of the layers to roughly trace the previous frame rather than the duplicate and shift method that I sometimes use because I’m quite fond of the shaking outline as a stylistic choice in hand drawn animation. I had two versions of this animation, one with colour and one without but in the end I chose to only use the sketch version to fit in the ‘outside of my comfort zone’ rule as I very rarely leave finished products uncoloured.
