The topic of week 3, Found Objects, encourage students to explore and create works base on an object (digitally or physically). In response to the brief, I chose to manipulate the face mask and change it to a mini coin bag. My inspiration was taken from the handbag worn by Lizzo in this picture. Believe it or not, this fashion item is quite trendy these years and a lot of celebrities are interested in them. So I’m thinking about whether I can make it more familiar and usable for non-celebrities. I will argue the problem with the usability principles
Overall, the idea is to create a small coin bag with a handler, which is light enough to subtract to the weight of the coins. I can explore the usability of the product based on these 5 principles
-
Easy to use - is it easy for new users to learn the product? - As long as users figure out that the product is a handbag, they will find no problem in figuring out how to use it
-
Efficiency - do users find it efficient to finish a task with a product? - Even though the best way to gauge this is to wait for users to use it and ask for feedback from them, I try to emphasize the lightness of the bag to increase the efficiency of the product. Also, face masks have materials that make it hard to tear them apart
-
Memorability - if users step away from the product for sometimes, will they be able to remember all the steps when they come back? - With how simple it is to use the bag, I’m confident that it is easy for users to pick up the product again
-
Errors - how many problems can hindrance the user experience, is it easy for users to recover from the error? - There are several problems that I thought about, for example, the safety of the product
-
Satisfaction - do users find it fun to use the product? - The product was made by a face mask, which is by itself, funny enough. Therefore, I think a lot of people would find the idea attractive
For this task, I was inspired by Max's work, Max to Moon, in which he used several different common objects to create a spacesuit. I especially like how he uses a bucket to make the helmet.
