Character Design

Character Design is one of my favourite things to do. This is the main character in my comic about comics. He will interact with both the reader and the other characters in the comic.

First I sketched various achetypes that might work as the main character, including one attempt to make myself the character. When I drew the guy with the top hat, it just felt right. I could see him doing the things that I would have the main character do. The quick pose sketch I did just confirmed for me the rightness of the design. Then I began iterating the character, pulling the best iteration and making a more detailed version, with attempts at different angles to see of it would work. Finally I re-did the pose sketch with far more detail.
