I have used Unity to create a very rough prototype exploring how I can take a seemingly normal environment, and making it change suddenly around the user by using surealist and expresionist styles of models.

I want to evoke feelings of isolation and make the user feel unsettled

This has been a good direction for me as it has helped me better refine my idea. Rather than focusing on the element of chronic pain, I have shifted to creating an environment that makes users feel unsettled, anxious and isolated. In doing so I am focusing on the emotional side of chronic pain without having to subject the user to actual physical, emotional or verbal pain.

Feedback I recieved from this prototype was positive and reinforced the fact that this direction is a positive one.

Users felt unsettled and uncomfortable as a result of the sudden changes within the environment, saying that 'the odd building freaked me out', and making them question 'why is that there?' Quotes taken from a friend I showed the work to.

This illustrates that these kinds of expresionist shapes, when placed next to objects that users recognise, ultimately unsettle and freak out the users.
