After experimenting with paths in Adobe After Effects, I decided to mix effects of the Particle Systems path and an infinite tunnel, which I learned to use in Play and Time
I made a Pre-Comp file of the Particle Systems path that I needed, and a Pre-Comp file of the repeating tunnel as well to streamline the final file.
I wanted the tunnel effect to synchronise with the match lighting sound I recorded, so I made the rings appear in small bursts at intervals of about 3-4 seconds
The Particle Systems effect synchronises with the sound recording of the mortar and pestle being used. If I had a singing bowl, I would have preferred to use that because then I could have had a lovely ethereal vibrational sound being represented by the sparkles
My intention ultimately in this project was to create a sense of abstraction and ethereality through the interpretation of sound. I relied on shape and particle emission effects to carry this out
