Theme: Play and Materiality
Context: 3D scanning
3D Scanning and 3D printing are all sound familiar, but I haven't tried it myself. So I think I can use it to make a digital copy of something.
Method: I used an app called Qlone which can do 3D scanning with the phone. And then I export the models into Unity and make them into AR.
Response: Compared 3D scanning with 3D printing, 3D printing is more familiar to me since it is commonly mentioned. When I heard that I can do 3D scanning with my own phone. So I printed out a mat that the app required and put objects on it and scanned them. Later, two rough digital copies were ready. After that, I import them into Unity and made them into AR. They were like objects exist in the form of physical and digital.
Reflection: Although it wasn’t complex to make it and most of the work was done by the app. But I think it was an interesting concept that making an object exists physically and digitally and put them together. It might be an interesting subject to be discussed or used in an interactive piece in the future.
