Theme:In response to this week's theme Play& Abstraction, wangting and I collaborated on a short 2d+3d exprimental abstract animation
Concept:I don't have any experience with the stark and simple aesthetic concept of abstraction. My works are often concrete, focusing on forms and details. Therefore, I have to abandon my cognition of traditional painting aesthetics and visual phenomena of the objective world, and create purely with geometry, figures and lines, which is a challenge for me and my Wanting. Wanting and I decided to try abstract experimental animation, Arnheim, the German-born writer, art and film theorist, raised this basic aesthetic concept of "how various media can be combined in a work of art". Both of us are interested in this theory so that we thought of mixing music, pictures, 3d model in the work is easy to achieve the result of abstract interweave fusion, finally our plan freezed in the traditional 2d animation abstraction as material and mechanism on the 3d geometry of changing, and try to make graphics with the music rhythm transformation, To achieve the visual effect of order and chaos constantly switching.
Method: I took charge of 2d animation part and Wangting did the 3d modeling. I used procreate to finish the 2d animation then Wanting sticked the animation as the material to the surfaces of constantly changing 3d geometries in C4D.
Response: Although wangting and I were not in the same place, it was an interesting experiment of online cooperation, because neither of us had any experience in abstract animation production, so this experiment could be regarded as a play experience, because when we did the production, we didn't know what the final result would be. We first tried painting in ProCreate with different brushes and pasted them on the 3D model one by one. Some of the brushes didn't work that well, and we finally decided to use a brush that looked like a flame effect for 2d animation. In the process of 2d animation production, I did not follow the basic rules of animation production because of the abstract style of animation, but drew randomly according to the feeling. The end result is amazing.
