Play and Body
In response to this week's theme Play and Body, I'm working through the outline of a birthmark on my body.
Context
I have a natural birthmark on my back that has gotten bigger and more irregular in shape as I've gotten older. I try to make a connection between the shape of the birthmark on my body and the theme of the week. I tried different creations for the birthmark on my back. I think the paintings created in this way can also be used as individual works. Different from the usual creation, I think the restriction of the shape of the birthmark can bring a different feeling to the work. My inspiration came from body painting, "The feature of body painting is that it is not bound by people's conventional thinking, like a wild, indulgent gallop. Because the human body is a body full of vitality, it has a special skeleton structure and muscle tissue, which are completely different. Compared with ordinary flat canvas, this makes body painting quite difficult. On the contrary, it is precise because the human body has vitality, emotion, tension and relaxation, steering and twisting, breathing and pulsation, which gives body painting a unique The passion and charm of an unparalleled life.” (Shao Senyong 2016)
Method
Take a photo of your back, import the photo into procreat, and create according to the shape of the birthmark.
Reflection
Since none of the people around me had suitable birthmarks, I ended up choosing my own body. In the past, many people have asked me what the scar-like thing on my back is, so I think my birthmark has enough room for creativity. It's a lot of fun to work with irregularities, especially with parts of my own body, which feels amazing to me. I was a little shy about the idea at first, I thought I was out of shape, but I plucked up the courage to ask my family to take a picture for me and finally did the creation.
