Week 07

Theme: Play and Body

Context:

For this week’s task, I was thinking about how to use our body as a tool to make animation. I was inspired by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF_YAJf4slk

That I could use hand to make a shadow to get some image.

Actually I have no idea where to start this week’s task. For me, I wanna do animation, but everything came out of my mind are about interactive way. So I just wondering what should I do to generate an idea to help my animation. Final I got that idea why I don’t think about using any parts of my body as a new tool to make animation. Like using hand to draw, not grab a pen. That could give me more inspiration to find an alternative way to think about making animation.

Method:

Put a light on the wall and record it with using hand to make some gesture and action. So I got some shadow image on the wall.  And then, put this video into Adobe premiere and change the color of the shadow. Then got the video.

Respond:

This is different from the normal way of creating animation by my experience. This seems to be a simple way to make this video. But it is worth because I could think about how to make animation in another way rather than just using digital or hand drawing style to produce animation.

In terms of using hand to make the shadow as tools, this idea can be used in further production. Our physical bodies definitely are considerable for producing animation. This is not a meaningful process that limits yourself to the traditional, conventional way of making animation.

When we are thinking a different way to make animation, we are constantly trying out new idea and possibilities. Everyone sits in front of their electronic devices and makes animated prototypes. When we translate our ideas into the real world, we could find a lot of interesting ways to make our work.
