In response to the Play and Sound theme, I created a music video. Use CSGO's prop sound clips as an input to combine with the rhythm and melody of the music What's It Worth.
Context
Huizinga noted that the word 'play' means both 'to play a game' and 'to play a musical instrument' across different languages. So this week I wanted to use the existing sound effects in the game to superimpose the music and play a more interesting effects.
This piece also fuses the sound of the gun with another piece of music, creating a video that mixes interestingly, even very graphically. You can hear him using a lot of different guns for different scales. For example, use the louder Desert Eagle and AWP to enhance the hearing effect. A mix of different gunshots to avoid monotonous tones that cause the picture to freeze.
Musically, I was inspired by the work of Pat D & Lady Paradox. Their track What's It Worth (feat Melodiq) is a very rhythmic piece of music. They use a simple melody to support the whole song, but you can hear the subtle changes in tempo and pitch. Therefore, I can echo these melodies that appear at different times through different gun sounds.
Method
I didn't think much of a plan when I started work, I went into the game and recorded some shots. Put music and recorded video into Adobe pr for editing.
Among them, I found some problems, such as the pre-recorded game sound and music are difficult to harmonious. I think after knowing the melody of the music, it is more integrated to make a concert according to the melody. But that also takes away my original intention of trying this. Because what I want is how to interact with a piece of music through the sound effects in the daily game to complete a new piece of music.
I spend a lot of time avoiding music and sound fusion mistakes. The music gradually broke away from the association of gunshots and became a simple background music to decorate the picture. So I started to get out of the center of the picture and solved the problem by using the same lens with different sound effects.
Response
The video I created had a really nice blend of sound effects by repeating the blade while the music was being mixed. Try to put aside the traditional music and feel the music of the gunfire!
Reflection
When I see other people's excellent works, I always think about whether I can make a unique and interesting work. But I had a lot of problems with making this music video. For example, the balance of sound effects and music cannot be handled, and the original intention of the theme exploration will always be lost after repeated audition of the video. After I watched spudaster's work, I slowly started to know where my video was wrong.
The sound is more complicated and interesting than I thought. I should use different gun sounds to correspond to different melodies of the music. For sound, pr can only do simple speed and volume changes, so that's why I'm having issues with balance.
But it's an interesting process, and I've always really enjoyed incorporating all kinds of music into my work. And this week's theme made me go deeper into this field and let me know more professional music design knowledge.
