Context
“All objects exist in a moment of time” - Amy Tan, The Bonesetter’s Daughter
At this moment, I want to create something that related to my studio themes ‘Creepy’. The first inspiration comes from Puzzle games, puzzle game collects object or solving puzzles. I began to search up some puzzle games such as the game that I played in my childhood Minesweeper (1989). This game is about collects numbers if you get booms mean game over.
I also collect some other ideas of being a playful game that interactive with foods as an object, such as Call of Fries, My name is mayo, and I am bread. Those games are clicking or throw the object to interact with it.
While I keep searching for ideas of what I want to make for this week, I want to make something that Zoological specimen collects animals parts. Such as using wet specimens keeping the parts in the jars. Then I and Qiannyu found Qimmy Shimmy artwork using the baby head as candies. One of her work gives us inspiration for making a GumBall candy dispenser.
Method
Making a GumBall candy dispenser that looks like a rabbit, inside the rabbit has all the organs. When the audiences press the button form the rabbit’s tail one of the organs will come out from the rabbit, then the audience is able to scan the object form the computer to see what is inside the organs. This is the tutorial we found for GumBall candy dispenser.

Response
At the start, we scale and cut out all the cardboard we need for the GumBall candy dispenser. The hardest part was some of the parts are not accurate, but I and Qiannyu manage to fixed all the problems Len also help a bit. After we built the dispenser, we start to test with the air dry clay we made some heart, poop, and eyeball. We test out how hard can it be and the weight of the clay to make sure it can roll out manually if we didn’t bake it form microwave the object will stuck in the dispenser.
In the last step, Qiannyu code from Processing allowed the computer to scan the object and play the animation. I have created two animations: one is the heart of the rabbit, and another one is a poop form the rabbit. All the animation was created by VR Quill, the program I was explored form my studio project.
Reflection
The whole process was time-consuming, but this exercise allows me and Qiannyu to experiences with a different method in a different area, such as the handmade the dispenser and the clays, also allowed us to show our practices in the project. The meaning of play in this exercise was we as a creator able to sculpt and build the object by do-it-yourself (DIY). After we as a creator play with the object, this exercise also allows the audience to interact with the object we made and using the object to play the animation. This corporate project becomes playful also allows me and Qiannyu to understand the workflow and play with our knowledge from each other.
