Theme:
Play and Forces
Context:
After experiencing folio1,I went through all my projects and read some of the provided references,in terms of animation, I realized ‘play’ is not only about coming up with a creative concept ,but also about testing different methods or materials of doing animation. The processing as matters as the result.
Play and force ,the new beginning of APD themes in folio2,I want to do something different or at least it’s different for me.I want to use a more loose method to create stuff.I forced myself to leave the computer and try something physically, kind of setting restrictions for my projects ,which also is a demonstration of an aspect of forces. I thought of using splatter paintings as my concept, and use findable objects as my materials and tools, which are my sushi containers and espresso liquid.I have to say,I had so much fun while doing the project.
Method:
I was inspired by the example in APD class, the artist used the sushi source containers to create a very lovely stop motion animation. I have lots of those containers at home,so I used them as my paint containers. However I don't have paint materials at home,so I decided to use either soy source or coffee as my paint color. And I am glad I chosen coffee eventually ,since my room smells like coffee after I have done my project.I couldn't image if I used soy source.
I tied the containers with ropes, then made an espresso and drew them into containers. After that,I set up my prepared paper canvas ,then kept the lids of containers open. I lift all the ropes and let the open containers fall into my canvas. Then let the gravity do its job. After the coffee drops onto canvas,I fold the canvas horizontally or vertically. My original painting was done.I took shots of all the paintings and chose some of them as my base.Once I have done those steps ,I found the potential of making them into chinese traditional painting style. Thus,I edited them in PS and animated them in After effects.Eventually,it forms a short animation of lake and reflections.I am pretty happy with the final result which I have no idea what will it looks like in the end.
Response/Reflection :
Play and forces as the first topic from folio 2,I am so happy I tried different methods to explore different possibilities being creative. And the result of the project are surprisingly well. This gives me the confidence to do experiments in my future projects and enhance my enthusiasm with APD projects as well. I finally don't feel overwhelmed about this course, and the struggle and growth I have been through are extremely valuable for me.
Besides I really like the method to create animation,I think it could be a collection of the same style animation for my projects.I’ll keep doing it.
