"Suminagashi" translates to "floating ink" in Japanese. Learn how to create this mesmerizing marbling technique—and print your creation onto paper or fabric—with artist Linh My Truong of the Textile Arts Center in New York City.

Consider about force, I’m going to use Wind to draw watercolour. That could create playful and creative artworks or experiences.

Method:

Material: watercolour paint, writing brush, paper, Air pump.

Draw the brush with water and watercolour paint randomly on the paper, but pay attention to let the water on the paper be enough. Then turn on the air pump to blow these water droplets with paint. The air pump like a brush right now. Of course, you can consciously draw things what you like. Then by blowing, make these things artistic.

Respond:

Through this exercise, I was thinking about how to turn force into our tool to create works. This is a very straightforward idea, but it can achieve its purpose. In the end, I made wind power as my tool. For playing. I combine painting with the wind. This gives me an excellent experience. The wind makes me feel uncontrollable. However, it is randomness and uncontrollability that has the value created.

Reflection:

My primary goal for this exercise was to show random things in a specific way. I was wondering to know what kind of things we can create through random elements. Then, I was very interested in the idea of using force as tools.

Therefore, I struggled with this work before I got inspiration. Initially, I made a model animation that simulates gravity in C4D. But in the end, I found that I was just demonstrating force, not using it as a tool. It seems that my things are ordinary and silly, like a software test. So I changed direction and my focus. How to use some force as a tool to help me build concepts based on play.
