THEME
Play and Place
CONTEXT
When I was a child, hopscotch was one of my favourite game. Its game rules include goal, competition, force and direct pleasure which is the pleasure of bodily jumping.
During the lockdown, I want to make the surrounding environment playable, such as my home. Home becomes the only place for life, exercise, social learning and entertainment. When I was wandering at home, I found that limited space made my life cramped. Lack of exercise makes people dull by sitting in front of the computer for a long time. So, I think what kind of activity can be put into the home, it may be very simple, does not require a lot of space, and does not require high materials.
The project of Playable City inspired me a lot.
METHOD
I used the coloured tape at home to put a hopscotch grid on the path from the bedroom to the toilet.
At the same time, I try to make the path of these grids meandering, which requires body twisting exercise.
Then play hopscotch, try to keep my feet inside the grid to the destination.
RESPONSE
In response to this theme, I made a home version of hopscotch. Traditional street games are put under restricted conditions. I think in this work, the play has become an innocent state. This idea can be deformed, or touch-sensitive lighting or audio will make this game richer. Here, I want to use this work to express the possibilities of traditional games placed in a new environment.
