Play and Place

Context

“It is good people who make good place” - Anna Sewell

The place is where we interact and connect. One of the examples, that been showed to us the bike draws on the taxi window and driven place to place made it by Christoph Niemann

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAxPvKa8jUs This work inspired me to create some interactive project that brings the viewer towards the place to place.

One day, I was struggling with the ideas for my project and Pablo has given me some suggestion of what I can test with. One of the suggestion was to try out the program of Tilt Brush. This program is similar to Quill, but TiltBrush can’t make animation. TiltBrush has a small gallery allows others to view how the artist created their work by click in and it will show the steps of how they build it. One of the works that took my attention “Rose - Tinted Lenses” by Kayleigh Eliza https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1npCWxqgGI The way Kayleigh build the space inspired me of layer up the space to make people feel related.

I also did some research for Quill artist, there is one artist I admire the most Goro Fujita. He has created different VR animation in Quill and streaming the process, one of the work is called “A Moment in Time” shows the people connect to space and zoom into the building to show the different space has different connecting. After looking at his work reminds me of my childhood, girl usually familiar with the dollhouse. We are able to place our doll to different space, and give the place an identity. Amanda also monition a toy that similar toward this idea Matryoshka doll is able to keep open it until to the smallest doll. To give a place identity by interacting and connect in the space.

Method

Build a place inside a place by TiltBrush VR

Response

Tilt Brush is a great program that has different brushes that’s flexibility for illustrator. For my future practice, I would like to continue to use the program, but for my studio project, I think Quill will be better for my situation. I have shown other my exercise to others in VR, for the people who are not familiar with the function is hard to interact with space. In the end, I have recorded it into a video and add a smother soundtrack.

Reflection

In this exercise, I build the outside planet the last and the smallest planet first. At the start, I only build the planet without all those little characters surround it. Then I figured it’s empty when they're no connection in the place and no identity for space. In this exercise give me the ideas of how should I build my environment, I should layer it up and build up details in a space.
