Play and Objects

CONTEXT

Christoph Niemann is one of my favourite artist and designer and he is famous for his abstract artworks. Christoph is very good at using objects to create creative illustrations.  He always makes objects out of its meaning.

Also, Japanese artist Tatsuya Tanaka's microcosmic pieces which inspiring me that image could free every object from its original function.

METHOD

I started by finding some small objects which I think they are the norm but have many possibilities in my apartment.

Then, I put them on paper and use a pencil to sketch ideas. After that, I chose a few of them and then used markers to draw my imagination of these objects.

When that drawing works finished, I shot them and put them into AE.

My final stage has put those materials synthesis with sound effects.

RESPONSE

Although this is not a polished work, but the processing of making one object into another object could be fun and can do it iteratively in the future. The sticky notes can be the black keys of the piano. The clip can change a lot, here I make it a girl's trolley. The utility knife is the cockpit of the UFO. Matches are the drumsticks of Taiko drum. The thermal properties of batteries also remind me of fireworks. For me, this kind of experimentation with objects is very helpful to provide the imagination and visual appeal when making animation.

Besides,I try to make the final outcome more like a fun activity so I chose some sound effects from gaming. In order to make the static picture more substituting, I also added a corresponding sound to each creation.
