Context
In response to the theme Play+Nature, my niece and I worked together to complete a painting from nature. It helps children to recognise the beauty of nature and to get closer to it.
Method
We will explore the concept of nature’s paintbrush.
Production process.
1. Go outside with your child and select several different types of plants.
2. Tie several plants together with string prizes to make a paintbrush.
3. Pour the paint onto a palette and prepare the paper for painting.
4. Use the botanical brushes to dip into the various colours of paint and work on the paper.
5. Discuss with your child the effect each brush produces and the idea of the creation.
I was inspired by Tim Knowles’ TREE DRAWINGS, where he allows the wind to move the ‘drawing hand’ of the tree by hanging the sketching brush on a low hanging branch with the quality of the painting placed under the genus. The artist records the natural movement of the tree in the wind, as well as the moments when it is stationary. Like signatures, each painting reveals the different characteristics of the various trees as they sway in the breeze
Reflection
The Play with nature is designed to encourage children, families, and adults to experience the beauty of our national parks while having fun! Through this program, we hope to inspire people to visit their local park as well as support activities that will make these special places even more enjoyable for everyone.
The mission of the Play with Nature is “to provide opportunities for individuals and groups to enjoy outdoor recreation experiences through education, conservation programs and partnerships.”
