APD week 9 play and abstract

Context

As an amateur for Chinese painting and Calligraphy. And in this work, I want looking for the abstraction in Chinese Calligraphy.

When I study with them, my teacher told me Chinese painting and calligraphy has common origin, this theory had been put forward as early as Tang Dynasty. In the evolution of calligraphy art, it became a kind of spiritual pursuit, the meaning of the words was not the most important, 

Abstract was one of way to understand this world, from PBS Digital Studios’ short introduction, “much can be contained in abstraction, it is not just one thing. Of core ways we have of interacting with the world are abstract.” Therefore, I could say words was abstract.And in Chinese Calligraphy, it has one types called grass script(or cursive script), even many Chinese people can’t understand or appreciate this script, because in a sense, calligrapher does not hope audience to understand the literal meaning of their work.

Method:

take photos(make stop motion animations)

Use procreate to making some Gif

Tracing words(characters) from different Calligraphy master.

Reflection:

I was going to using the stop motion animations, but it was very hard to separate the writing strokes to shoot. So I use procreate calligraphy brush to finish the middle section. I did not do a good job of connecting them in one videos. 

During the process of thinking this topic, I review the learning about Chinese calligraphy and painting in the past, and also looking for some modern Chinese calligraphy. It made me learn a lot.
