Play and body

Method

This week I used paper and pen to draw parts of various animals, insects and humans. I call it "Monster Maker"

I want to make a puzzle game that will incorporate some elements of Cthulhu mythology.

They are mysterious and eerie.

Context

This week, I was thinking about how to connect play with the body. I guess most of my classmates will focus on body movements, so I think about how I can break through my own thoughts. This brings me to some monster-versus-human stories. When I was looking for inspirational videos, I noticed the movie Dagon (Stuart Gordon, 2001). This is a movie with the background of Cthulhu mythology. Humans believe in the mysterious creature Dagon in the sea, so people gradually become more like sea creatures. I was impressed by the beautiful octopus-footed heroine. In my search, I also found some interesting games like Cat museum (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp5flhDfTp8). When I created it, it also reminded me of "SCP Foundation" (a famous website for sharing monster creations https://the-scp.foundation/, search for SCP here to see a lot of interesting monster designs).

In the production of the game, I used

  1. Human parts
  2. Parts of cute animals
  3. Insect parts
  4. The parts of marine life

Reflection

First of all, I am very grateful to Xinfan and Estella for playing. Through this game, I can observe how each person's thinking style is different in behavior and contact. ‘Touch is responsive and dialogic and can be deeply emotional. The aesthetics of touch have immediate emotional responses.’ (Hornecker 2011)

This is another discovery of my game this time, besides receiving a lot of interesting creatures. Xinfan chooses to splicing animals through thinking and choice, and it turns out that Xinfan is indeed a more rational person in life. Estella, on the other hand, will choose to close her eyes and touch and make random selections to play the game. She is indeed a very emotional person.
