THEME
Play and Force
CONTEXT
When I first saw the theme of this week, the first thing in my mind was an advertisement and news that I had seen a long time ago.
A recruitment agency in Germany has created a series of adverts depicting just what they think goes on when you use an airport scanner, ATM, washing machine, kiddie ride and petrol pump. In the airport scanner, a man appears to be hunched over a suitcase shining a torch on a pair of pants. In another ad, a child rides a toy truck while a man pedals underneath. And in a laundrette, a woman appears to hide inside an industrial washing machine cleaning clothes by hand on an old-fashioned washboard.
And this kind of thing does happen in reality. There is an uncle in an automatic ticket vending machine in Japan. As long as you press the help button, the uncle will stretch out half of his body and enthusiastically teach you how to use the automatic ticket vending machine.
METHOD
My initial inspiration came from the imagination of the long charging time of an electric car. So I chose to use photoshop to draw an interesting scene. The electricity to charge the electric car is not from the power plant, but from the electricity brought by countless people who are desperately pedalling, or that behind the charging pile is a gym. In a sense, this approach can be considered environmentally friendly.
Now, a large amount of our electricity comes from thermal power generation, which is not much more environmentally friendly than using gasoline vehicles.
RESPONSE / REFLECTION
In the process of drawing, I tried to use texture to make the background part, which in my opinion is very effective and express the overall effect quickly. I realized that in some scenes, I don't need to spend too much time to express the material of the object, and the texture can help me achieve the effect I want.
I think the process of drawing characters is the most difficult part of the whole painting. Because I want to show that there are many people in the gym, and if it takes a lot of time to depict a single character, it seems to be a waste of time, so I choose to use large colour blocks to represent the characters.
