Play Game Here: https://connect.unity.com/mg/other/untitled-23492

Context

For this week’s theme of ‘Play and Force’, I built a 2D golf game in Unity and made it playable through WebGL. I took the literal meaning of ‘Force’ and ‘Play’ and applied it to a mini game where the player has to put the ball in the box with as few shots as possible.

Method

As mentioned above, I created the game using Unity. When designing the game, first I laid out a plan of how I wanted the game to play. I decided to go with click-and-drag to the main game mechanic. Once I had everything in the level laid out and working, I created the win screen and the main menu screen. After that I added 9 more levels to the game, each with increasing difficulty, to challenge the player and keep them engaged.

Response

As a response to this week’s theme, I created a game using Unity and published it through WebGL. In the game, the player has to click-and-drag the ball to apply some force to it. The farther the drag of the mouse the stronger the force that is applied to the ball. The main goal of the game is to get the ball in the box across all levels, with as few shots as possible.

Reflection

For this week, I tried creating a WebGL game from Unity. I had never tried publishing a game before for someone else to try, but after talking to Matt and Jadd during out Studio class last week, I was introduced to WebGL. It was an interesting thing and an amazing feeling to have something you created be shared in a public space. When thinking about the this week's theme, I was unclear about what I wanted to do and what direction I wanted to head. The first things that came into my mind while thinking about 'Force' was hitting something and gravity. I wanted to make a game after doing a illustrations for the past few weeks, so I thought I'll go ahead and make a 2D game that was based off of some kind of force. So, I played around with the 'Rigidbody2D's force options inside Unity and the UI applications, to make a 2D golf game.

The 'Play' theme for this week was coverd by the general idea of playing and experimenting with the Rigidbody2D and UI scripting inside of Unity. And the idea of 'Force' was seen as the pushing force created by the player when dragging their mouse.
