Play & Place
Context
Osaka Symphony by Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller
In this work, Janet Cardiff creates an interesting experience that forms invisible borders of place inside the user's head. With the changing of ambient sound and the movement visitors, the empty corridor was divided into many spaces.
Method
Form a room by edit colliders in Unity, Then attach different sound on the colliders, user can click on the empty screen to explore borders and shapes of areas in the room.
Reflection
Using sound and the action of the user to construct an intangible space is very interesting. In real-world, we feel the space by seeing, touching and listening(mostly rely on visual information), but if we control the sound as feedback, we can build a "virtual" space which exists in the world (both in the real-world and simulated digital world).
