THEME
Play and Objects
CONTEXT
I saw a microscopic exhibition of Japanese artist Tatsuya Tanaka a few years ago. When I saw this theme, I remembered his work. He gave them different functions with daily necessities, such as using a matchbox as a table and broccoli as a tree.
Tangram is a kind of educational toy that is often played in childhood. It is an anatomical puzzle composed of seven basic shapes (square, parallelogram, and triangle). Its gameplay is to use seven parts to spell out the shapes of other objects.
METHOD
I remembered that when I was a kid playing Tangram, the most basic thing was to put together some simple shapes. I checked some tutorials and chose a sailboat that can be put together neatly, and a cat that needs to be changed and put together.
I first used AI to make the basic tangram shapes, and then placed them in AE and placed them like sailboats and cats. Add materials suitable for them, waves and balls of yarn that cats like.
After the piece was finished, I put them into the Pr and added sound effects.
RESPONSE
I thought about creativity for this assignment for a long time, because the materials at hand are limited. It will be better if there are real tangrams, and you can make actual pieces together and compare them with real objects.
But for the final effect, except for some details (the pieces are not particularly neat), I am quite satisfied. But I’m not sure if this thinking process is qualified, because it’s after seeing the topic.
Then think about the matching items, and then think of the Tangram. After I pieced together the objects, I also added some elements that fit them, such as waves and ball of yarn to make the objects more vivid.
Finally, I tried to add sound effects to make the video more interesting.
