Theme
In responds to this week's theme play and objects, I have made an animation of a special version of Tetris with some common geometries. This week's concept reminds me about the tinkering and OOO (Object Oriented Ontology) from CPS. So, I wanted to start with the most common or widespread items in life and give them a different characteristic than before and see if I can create some new stuffs.
Context
As Poce, Amenduni and De Medio (2019) argued, “Tinkering could be adopted not only to develop students’ scientific knowledge but also to support thinking processes such as Critical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving.” I was planning to start with a basic, simplest polygon, see what kind of ‘tinkering’ that I can do on it. Randomly break it up and do the recombination is the idea that come up in my mind. The following pic shows the structure of my thinking.
Methods
I used c4d, AE and PR to finish the whole animation.
First of all, I split a plane into geometries of different shapes randomly and then put them together like traditional Tetris.
I want these polygons are cute and bouncy rather than a boring cube. I add soft body simulation tag and collision body simulation tag to those polygons and ground respectively. In this way, when the polygons hit the ground, they will be as elastic as fondant. Also, when the polygons touch each other, they will bounce.
Unlike traditional Tetris, the squares do not disappear on the horizontal line, instead, it is to see how many emoji (I口I) can be spliced in total (I'm talking nonsense QAQ).
Response
The Final animation is here:
Reflection
This is my second time to play something with 3d object materiality, I am glad that I can still push myself to do the unfamiliar things continually. I would say this is kind of tinkering as well, to do and try the areas that are not good at. In addition to that, I find that when you are looking for inspiration or want to do something creative, try to break the original rules or your view of such things. Giving this item new rules can often lead to more possibilities.
