Theme:
Play and Objects
Method:
Create a game in which we can use the agency of play to transform actual artefacts into digital forms, merge these worlds, and connect them to variable degrees.
Context:
This week ,explores 'objects', materiality and play. I was committed to creating work that would be interactive and enable me to experience joy through imagination, experimentation and storytelling. This resulted in me making a stop motion animation that is geared by the unexpected pages of a lifestyle magazine.
Through exploring the idea and theme of objects and how we interact with them, developing a game that has no rules gave me the freedom to play with the fluid states of both my objects.
In order to create a more entertaining and immersive story to the experience, I wanted to explore a game concept that incorporated all of these principles alongside digital interactivity and the merge of physical and digital . To do this, I would have to make a commitment to play in order to explore my imagination and create something unique and interesting for others to play with through the application of the objects

Reflection:
Once I got the hang of it, making this game was a breeze. I must admit that I originally intended to place my characters in a 3D world where I would literally cut out a box and build a living space in which they could interact. This made it difficult for me to get started, but I remembered KISS (Keep it Simple Silly). I also watched various stop animation lessons, and the experts indicated that if you're a beginner, you should start with a 2D space, which worked out nicely with the materials I had. Each image took over 20 minutes to create, which was frustrating because I had not expected the job to take so long. What a naiveté! However, I persevered and found myself immersed in the creative process. When I laid all of the pages side by side and plotted out the story like a storyboard, it was a lot of fun. It reminded me of the ACMI installation Edit Line, in which participants must construct words using captions from various films; I may have been unconsciously influenced by it.
