In response to the theme of Play and Stillness, I created an animated video that interacts with the real world.
Context:
Hombre_McSteez is a YouTuber whose work Aug(De)Mented Reality (https://youtu.be/gpum4nK2wOM) expresses "Animation is not a matter of movement alone, but a matter of movement set in relation to stillness” (Esther Leslie). Defining animation as an “optical illusion of movement” makes it impossible to imagine animation as stillness. And he interacts with the environment by drawing animation on the transparent board, so that the audience's vision is brought from the traditional virtual space of 2D animation to reality, and the stillness in the animation is more intuitively expressed.
I was initially going to draw a static woman with transparent hair, and then the hair would appear in the universe and nature. Accompanied by quiet music to make the audience feel the stillness. After thinking about it, I still chose to use paper to draw animation and connect with reality. Because it's interesting for me and my new understanding of animation.
Method:
I looked up a lot of the photos I took in Australia as the source of the animation, drawing those characters through pieces of paper to make the still images move. The reason for this is because the photo is still, and so is the piece of paper I'm painting on. But the two are linked together and a basic animation is created by stitching consecutive photos. This makes me think it would be a stronger response to the theme.

Reflection:
The drawing process is very meaningful, and I haven't tried to make animations on paper for a long time. When I'm drawing, I always wonder if I should add more frames to make the picture smoother. But based on the time schedule, I still maximize the simplification of the work. In the pr, I made the video more funny by adding different sound effects and reusing the same frame. At the beginning, I thought the picture was too laggy, but after adjusting it later, I found that this lag was also prominent An expression of stillness. This attempt was very interesting! It's a shame it's the last week of APD because I've created a lot of content in this class that I love.
