Theme
Play and Stillness
Method
I used the handy modeling software Nomad to complete my creation on the iPad.
A mysterious pixel forest with a kitten.
Context
This week, I was thinking about how to express stillness. I've played a lot of idle games because the wait is always full of surprises and doesn't require much action. Life always requires effort to get results, but games like this don't! You just need to be still! We can experience what is unearned, it is joyful, and there is no guilt.
So, I searched a lot of placement games like 'Traveling Frog' (Hit-Point, 2017), 'Mountain' (David OReilly) and Abyssrium pole (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JJ9eBTm4tI) . There are also some games that can give people a sense of calm, Animal Crossing series (Nintendo, 2001) This game gives me a very calm feeling, I can let my character sit by the sea all day, watching the sunrise and sunset.
I was inspired by the games 'Mountain' and 'Abyssrium pole' and due to lack of time I was only able to create a model of a scene.
My concept:
Reflection
This time I tried to make a simple concept and model and didn't finish all my concepts. I added a lot of lights to it to increase the transparency of the objects, but failed because I was unknowingly making the lights spooky instead of healing. The theme this time is actually somewhat similar to the Nature theme, and naturally it can also give people peace. The thriving ‘Gardens game’ can often be a place of retreat and escape (Gordon 2019). I think it may have a lot of environmental value as well. That's why more and more idle games use natural elements as the theme. Even under acute stress, quietly caring for vegetation provides them with comfort (Gordon 2019). This creation also makes me happy, because I have never tried to make an island surrounded by clouds.
