Theme

Play and Stillness

Response

For the last project, I was getting ambitious and decided to make an idle game for the theme. The game aims to make the players feel calm during the gameplay. It was also able to act as a moving wallpaper for the desktop.

I choose to have the game related to the ocean as personally, I feel the calmest when I was at the ocean. According to Anne(2017), the sound of ocean waves is repetitive, so it resonates with human rhythmic breath and at the same time helps to achieve a meditative state. It was also a great metaphor to end the term with, vacation!

Context

I was looking back at previous weeks' writings and found the Lofi-player(week 7). The gameplay of the player, which has no negative feedback, inspired me to create a game that would bring similar experiences to my players.

I was also a fan of the game animal restaurant, and would like to implement an organic animated game as I feel like this would be able to make the zen gaming experience fun.

Method

I created the frame by frame hand drawn animation in Harmony 20 and then exporting it in different layers frame by frame within png sequences. I then import everything into unity, set the animation up for every scene.

Using the playmaker plugin, I was able to simplify the coding part of the project by using nodes which make the progress faster. After I finish binding the keys to the animations, I then export the game as a webGL and upload it to itch.io.
