Theme

In responds to this week's theme play and nature, I was planning to figure out how to get 'nature' to draw its own pictures/textures. I find that people always record the beauty of nature through photos, videos, or paintings. I was wondering how to let nature leave its mark in its own way.

Context

The related work is called <Bernhard Edmaier: Earth Art> (https://www.beautifullife.info/art-works/colours-of-the-earth-by-bernhard-edmaier/ ). This is a photo book about the texture of the earth. The Earth will appear in this book in its most essential, yet most beautiful and mind-blowing form. German geologist and photographer Bernhard Edmaier traveled around the world and took breathtaking photos of the Earth's surface from the perspective of an airplane. I find that people always record the beauty of nature through photos, videos or paintings. I was wondering how to let nature leave its mark in its own way.

Methods
First of all, I would like to record the traces left by the wind, sunlight and rain. I taped a slightly thinner piece of white paper to the outside of the 20th floor window. It will stay up to the kind of condition for 3-5 days. During these times, this paper will be exposed to direct sunlight and blown by the wind. It will also get wet by rain if there is a chance (It hasn't rained yet = =).

Next, I tried to record the paintings drawn by the land/grass. I just used a slightly thick drawing paper and dragged it over the grass. I hope that this way can simulate a person walking and what patterns can be drawn naturally. The patterns drawn by the grass are dotted or linear, and they are usually shorter traces.

Also, I used the same thickness of drawing paper to rub on the tree trunk. I found that due to the regular up and down movement of the paper on the trunk, the pattern drawn on the trunk was neater and clearer, being brown in color.

Finally, I invited my friend's Corgi to participate in the creation as well. We let Corky stomp on the paper and see what kind of pattern he could leave behind. The pattern drawn by Corgi is more random. This is based on the liveliness of the creature. Compared to the pattern brought by the still life, Corgi's footprints are distributed in all corners of the paper, and some of them are complete and some are only partial.

Reflection

This will be a long-term project and due to time constraints, I have only recorded a few patterns that can be drawn from the natural things around me so far and are relatively simple and ephemeral. After that I will find a way to record more patterns that nature can draw. For example, waves, flowers, rocks and so on, and see what they will bring different paintings. I will also go back to bigger meadows and go longer and further. If there is a chance, I will also intercept these patterns or paintings to see if there is any potential. For example, a whole new picture could be composed, etc.
