“Portrait/self-portrait
Few of Haring’s self-portraits depict his true likeness. Instead, he often used his characteristic symbols, such as the ‘radiant’ baby or dog, to signify his identity by association. He referred to these symbols as his ‘tags’, a term borrowed from graffiti that describes a stylized personal signature, usually the nick name of the writer…”
---from the wall of exhibition of Keith Haring in NGV
Usually self portrait is drawing physical look and sometimes with emotions or interpretations. Haring used simple symbols to represent himself and gave himself ‘tags.’ I would like to create my own tags and draw them down as a symbol of myself.
Method
Using paper, pen and online number generator
Response
In order to create unexpected and funny result, I forced myself to use the order I randomly select for the paper, and tried to choose the words on the paper randomly by using number generator to create unexpected result. However, I think the result is normal. Choosing purposely maybe have a better result.
I feel the ‘symbol’ looks a little too complicated. I would like to keep refining it to make it more simplified and look like a symbol, or try to rearrange the drawing to make it more interesting.
