CONTEXT

Tiktok is a pretty popular social media that allows the users to create short videos up to a minute. Each user has a profile where they can upload all their desired content. What does it make it so unique? The fact that creators have a fairly extensive set of tools to make their content: they can instantly record multiple clips and put it into one video, the addition of text, music, filters, among others. This created the perfect context for the birth of one of the biggest creative booms on the internet in recent years, compared with other landmarks for content creation like Vine and Snapchat.

METHOD

I just accesed the platform to record myself with some filters applied. The idea was to create really short clips to produce a sort of video collage. There were some others filters that have other functions, like adding backgrounds or some special effects, but I decided to select more of the ones that allow you modify yourself.

Why I decided to show them in this specific format? By proposing this, where the videos advance from right to left, I wanted to make a representation of the speed in which this type of content is consumed, which is quite fast comparing to the more trational media.

RESPONSE

My response is just a short video that highlights some of the filters that are available on the platform.

REFLECTION

As a person that only consumes content and does not creates it on this specific platform, I've never been a heavy user of these; in fact, I've never liked to take a lot of photos of me. However, the sense of modifying my appereance, adding characteristics to myself, cloning me into an infinite crowd, among others; allowed me and gave me an opportunity to make representations of myself that aren't common or normal on a daily basis. Watching myself with the filters applied, it invited me to move, do crazy faces, try to fit the mood of that specific filter; and for me, that's the perfect representation of what "Play" means.
