Week 1 Finished Play

Theme

- In response to the theme “Play and Self”, I created a normal presentation with a special guest. Who is me but in a stick figure form. While presenting the stick figure variant of me passes comments to me so that it looks like a conversation is occurring.

Context

- I found a recent thesis and I believe it is an online study that talks about the concept of VTubers. In the thesis (Turner, 2022) they talk about self-presentation and how people usually try to convey their personality to others to peak their interests.

- The other study (Shirai,2019) is just a research that I looked around on one of the technologies used for creating VTubers. A bunch of hardware are used from motion tracking suits and iPhone AR cameras for facial tracking.

Method

- I recorded myself presenting separately and then where there were small gaps of me not talking, I just added a voice-over of myself talking. And then with the audio provided, I created a stick figure version of myself with rough facial animation.

Response

- Here is the response to this week. APD Week 1 - Play and Self

Reflection

- It turned out better than expected, but I wanted to get better at showing facial animation as at the current state it doesn’t fit the audio at all so it does feel weird that the lips are moving differently than what is being said. But I believe that requires more time and further investment in technology that can track my facial movements.
